Employee Training and Employee Development are not the same. Training means to "put in" while development means to "draw forth". We know it is important to use both in today's workplace.
Skills and knowledge are put into people but character, maturity, integrity, emotional intelligence and commitment to vision are drawn forth from them. Employee development is about professional and personal empowerment.
Training and development represents independent paradigms. Practicing these two paradigm calls for different sets of skills.
I have found over the years that most organizations train; they don't develop. Leadership programs are very important. What do you think?
